Macbeth
1998: Michael Bogdanov
This is another of the modern-dress Macbeths, with the lead character depicted as a guerilla soldier in fatigues fighting for who knows what. As far as I know it can only be acquired in a two-for-one set with the Twelfth Night with Parminder Nagra. It’s severely cut, and, despite the fact that Bogdanov was a veteran in the field of Shakespeare production, I did not find it particularly enlightening. Greta Scacchi does, however, have an electrifying presence as Lady Macbeth. For the most part, however, I found it merely tedious. There are many other more worthwhile versions of the play out there.
